The malaria-free Nambiti Game Reserve near the Drakensberg, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, has abundant wildlife and stunning scenery just 25km (16 miles) east of Ladysmith.
Nambiti Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, is a superb destination for a Big Five safari. It is located just 40 minutes from the Drakensberg Mountains and can be reached in 3,5 hours from Johannesburg, Gauteng. Nambiti is also close to Durban and can be reached within a 2,5 hour drive from this city.
The Nambiti Game Reserve consists of 20 000 acres of land characterised by diverse bushveld terrain including grasslands, savannah, thornveld and acacia trees. The area alongside the Sundays River waterfalls is a great habitat for rare birds, and various dams on the conservancy are home to huge Hippo.
Head for Ladysmith on the N3. Enter KwaZulu-Natal via Van Reenen. Look out for the Ladysmith Toll off-ramp (at the bottom of Van Reenen's Pass). Turn left and drive toward Ladysmith on the R103.
Guests are required to call the lodge once they reach Ladysmith. Once in Ladysmith, drive straight through, following the N11 Road to Newcastle. Ignore the signs that say Nambiti as these will lead to the South Gate. Only turn off to the right once the sign that says Elandslaagte has been reached. This is now the Glencoe Dundee R602. Travel for 2.3km (1.42 miles).
Turn right on Elandslaagte P555 (dirt road). Cross the railway line - follow Elandslaagte sign for 200m (0.12 miles). Turn left following Elandslaagte sign. Drive 3.8km (2.36 miles) to the north gate of Nambiti Private Game Lodge.
Head for Ladysmith on the N3 - Take the Ladysmith / Bergville toll off ramp. Turn Right and head for Ladysmith, drive straight through Ladysmith on the N11 Road towards Newcastle.
Guests are required to call Nambiti Plains Private Game Lodge when they are in Ladysmith. From the last traffic light leaving Ladysmith travel for approx. 7km (4 miles). Ignore the signs that say Nambiti as these will lead to the South Gate.
Only turn off to the right once the sign that says Elandslaagte has been reached. This is now the Glencoe Dundee R602. Travel for 2.3km (1.42 miles). Turn right on Elandslaagte P555 (dirt road). Cross the railway line - follow Elandslaagte sign for 200m (0.12 miles). Turn left following Elandslaagte sign. Drive 3.8km (2.36 miles) to the Nambiti north gate until you reach this game reserve near Durban and the Drakensberg.
