Access

Kwandwe Private Game Reserve is located 160 kilometres (100 miles) from Port Elizabeth. Visitors to the reserve can charter an early afternoon private flight into the reserve from Port Elizabeth airport or choose to drive from Port Elizabeth on a leisurely 1 hour and 45 minute journey.

Airport

Johannesburg O. R. Tambo International or Cape Town International and from there visitors can take a connecting flight to Port Elizabeth Domestic Airport and a private chartered plane to the safari park.

Highlights

Kwandwe Private Game Reserve is a malaria free luxury safari park which offers excellent sightings of the Big Five of the African animal kingdom as well as other large game species including Wild Dog and Cheetah. Guided game drives take visitors out into the bush where experienced guides provide insight into the African wilderness and the flora and fauna found naturally in the area.

Activities

Kwandwe is only open to visitors staying at one of the four luxury lodges within the reserve. While staying in the comfort and tranquillity of the camps, guests can enjoy a number of organised activities including twice daily game drives, guided educational bush walks and bird watching excursions.

Those interested in culture and community outreach can enjoy an organised trip to the Angus Gillis Foundation, a foundation that works within the local community to teach the people living there their strengths, abilities and skills, including soap making, doll making and beading. Three of the four lodges are especially set up for children and offer a number of activities for them to enjoy, including spoor tracking, finger painting, fishing, treasure hunts, special game drives and much more.

Climate

The private safari park is situated near to the Great Fish River, in a semi-arid area and has inconstant rainfall sporadically during the year. The main rainfall occurs between October and March and the winters are mostly dry. The area does have a tendency toward drought and in winter frost regularly occurs. The average summer temperature is 30°C (86°F) falling to 0°C (32°F) in July and the winter months.
