Imfolozi Game Reserve accommodations in KwaZulu-Natal are basic without any frills but are well equipped and serviced daily. Most of the accommodations overlook the wilderness and providing an authentic African experience.
Imfolozi Game Reserve accommodation consists of various self-catering units, tented camps and bush lodges. Some camps have their own cook, who can prepare an array of delicious meals, and a resident field guide.
All the Imfolozi accommodation is well equipped and located in tranquil surroundings. Limited supplies of food and drink can be purchased at the shop at Mpila Camp, although we recommend bringing your own supplies.
The roads in the Park are tar and gravel with some sections badly rutted and or potholed. Although suitable for the normal sedan cars with high clearance, care should be exercised.
Mpila Main Camp offers central Imfolozi Game Reserve accommodation with magnificent views of the Wilderness area. Bottled water, cool drinks and petrol can be purchased from the Mpila camp shop, but there are no provisions or restaurant facilities provided. Supply can be unreliable so we recommend bringing your own supplies.
Please note that Mpila Main Camp is powered by a generator, which runs daily between 07h00 and 22h00 only. Although the water is suitable for bathing and cooking, it is recommended that you bring your own water supply for drinking.
There are 2x seven-bed self-contained cottages available in Mpila Camp in Imfolozi Game Reserve. The cottages are basic without any frills but are clean and serviced daily. The cottages have a caretaker/ cook who can prepare all your meals for you. Go on a game drive and come back in the afternoon to a well-cooked hot meal.
Enjoy your evenings around a roaring fire and watch the sunset from your private veranda. Do take note that the camp is not electrified except for an "elephant wire" and wildlife roams freely. Do not walk around camp after dark.
There are 12x two-bed chalets available in Mpila Camp in Imfolozi Game Reserve. The chalet accommodation is brick under thatch with high ceilings and is one roomed with en-suite bathroom. The high ceilings keep the units cool in the summer months as there is no air-conditioning.
The chalets are basic but comfortable and clean. The units are also serviced daily. You can prepare meals in the equipped kitchenette or make use of the outside braai. The kitchenette is not separate and is part of the bedroom. Watch the sunset from your private veranda.
There are 6x five-bed chalets available in Mpila Camp in Imfolozi Game Reserve. The brick under thatch chalets are spacious with high ceilings. There is no air-conditioning and the high ceilings help keep the chalets cool. Expect basic accommodations that have no frills but are clean and comfortable.
A daily caretaker comes to clean and service the unit daily. The chalets have two bedrooms with separate lounge and kitchen area and are ideal for a family getaway to Imfolozi Game Reserve. In the evenings watch the sunset and toast some marshmallows over the coals of the outside braai.
Masinda Lodge is a private fully self-contained unit for up to 6 - 8 persons in a secluded area, about a 20 min drive away from Mpila Main Camp. This self-catering lodge is situated in the central area of the uMfolozi Park and has panoramic views of the surrounding bushveld and rocky ridges to the south.
Masinda in Imfolozi Game Reserve has been refurbished and offers three bedrooms with en-suite bathroom. There is a fully equipped kitchen, lounge and dining room that leads out onto an open veranda with an outside braai/barbeque area.
The services of a caretaker/cook are included to assist in the preparation of the food. It is important to note the lodge is not fenced and wild animals roam freely. We do not recommend moving about in the evenings and hyena and monkeys scavenging can be a nuisance.
The budget safari tents at Mpila Camp in Imfolozi Game Reserve consists of 12x two-bedded and 2x four-bedded units, each with an en-suite bathroom. The tents are for the more adventurous traveller and are kept clean but are very basic. An equipped kitchen and dining area is connected to each tent by a wooden boardwalk that is electrified. The four-bed tents are ideal for families with older children only.
Sit on the private verandah and watch an African sunset. Throw some marshmallows or a traditional South African boerewors on the outside braai/barbeque area. Don't leave the area unattended though, as hyenas have learned it is an easy source of food.
Gqoyeni Bush Lodge is situated on an elevated peninsula and overlooks where the Black Mfolozi River and the Gqoyeni Stream meet. The area is known for its excellent game viewing because the rivers are a favoured drinking spot for a variety of wildlife.
Gqoyeni Bush Lodge in Imfolozi Game Reserve consists of four units connected by a wooden boardwalk each with a twin bed and en-suite bathroom. There is a large open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge area with uninterrupted views of the sandbanks and reed beds of the rivers. There is an open fire and braai/barbeque area, ideal for dinner under the African stars.
A caretaker/cook and field rangers are included in the tariff. The caregiver can help prepare food and the field ranger is available to take you on guided walks early in the morning and late in the afternoon. There is no perimeter fence and animals roam freely.
Hlatikulu Bush Lodge at Imfolozi Game Reserve is situated in the heart of the Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park and is set on a terrace overlooking the Black Imfolozi River. Nothing beats sipping your morning coffee or your sundowner gin and tonic watching a variety of animals congregating by the river.
See the resident white rhino and hippo emerge from the bush to drink at the river. A caretaker/cook and field ranger are included in the tariff. The caregiver services your lodge and can help prepare food. The field ranger is available to take you on guided walks early in the morning and late in the afternoon.
There is no perimeter fence and animals roam freely. Hyenas and monkeys scavenging can be a nuisance. Please note you may not feed any of the animals.
Nselweni Bush Lodge is situated on the banks of the Black Mfolozi River with stunning views of the river and surrounding lush bushveld. Nselweni has recently been re-built as a joint venture with members of the local community.
There are 10x 2bed brick under canvas units each with an en-suite bathroom. The units also have a small kitchenette to prepare meals in. You can also make use of a communal lounge that has couches and DSTV.
Nselweni Bush Lodge in Imfolozi Game Reserve can only be accessed by 4x4, 4x2 or SUV with high clearance due to the rugged terrain in which Nselweni Bush Lodge is located. The lodge is also not fenced other than an electrified elephant wire. You should be aware of this and not wonder about especially during the night.
