During your stay at Oceana Beach and Wildlife Reserve, there is nothing better than taking a daily walk down to the private stretch of beach. It feels much like having your own slice of heaven right on your doorstep – the dunes of white sand seem to go on for miles. Fishing onshore is also pleasure here, and we can also arrange for some horseback riding along the sand, or some whale watching boat excursions out at sea.
Relax with a massage in the comfort of your room, or put your feet up and savour a cocktail on your private deck. During the late winter months, you may even be lucky enough to spot whales cavorting in the distance. At Oceana Beach and Wildlife Reserve, you are always encouraged to enjoy yourself at your own leisurely pace. The staff are always on hand to offer you something chilled or heated, exactly at the point when you most need it.
When you're ready to quench your curiosity, jump in the car and head out to explore. Pay a visit to Port Alfred, where boutique shops, cafes and museums await, or soak up the sun at the two blue flag beaches. We also highly recommend making a day trip to Grahamstown, home of the National Arts Festival and Rhodes University.
Optional activities include horse riding on the beach, scuba diving, canoeing, deep sea fishing, golf, boat cruises and more.
A lack of predators means you'll be able to get up close to a bounty of animals on the reserve during game drives. Keep your eyes peeled for bontebok, sable, nyala and bushbuck, which can also be spotted not too far off from the hotel itself.
Giraffe, rhino, black impala, Inala, water buffalo, and kudu, you name it and its there! If your heart is set on experiencing the thrill of South Africa's famous Big 5, we can also arrange for you to visit any of the more prominent reserves within an hours' drive of the hotel.
