Mountain Zebra National Park offers a range of self-catering accommodation options, from scenic mountain cottages, to basic campsites with power points.

Along with a stellar range of outdoor activities, there’s also a good choice of Mountain Zebra National Park accommodation to suit all budgets and preferences.

The Rock Chalets at Mountain Zebra National Park come with an en-suite bathroom with air-conditioning and a fully-equipped kitchen. But, if you’re keen to go fully rustic, there are also two mountain cottages available with a gas-powered shower and toilet area.

Great for groups, the three-bedroom Doornhoek Guesthouse, a restored Victorian homestead, features the most incredible views over the Doornhoek Dam.

Mountain Zebra National Park Rest Camp

The official Mountain Zebra National Park rest camp is located just 12km from the main gate and offers a mix of family-friendly 2-bedroom cottages and 1 bedroom cottages, as well as campsites with 220V power points and access to communal facilities.

Cottages have a bathroom with a shower, air-conditioning, a kitchen, lounge with a fireplace, DTSV and an outdoor patio with a braai.

There is also a restaurant and a grocery shop at Mountain Zebra National Park Rest Camp.

Rock Chalets

Rock Chalets in Mountain Zebra National Park beckon like hidden mountain sanctuaries, each one a rugged yet refined retreat. Inside, you’ll find 2 inviting bedrooms: one with a snug double bed, the other with twin singles, perfect for weary explorers.

Each bedroom boasts its own en-suite bathroom with both a bath and shower, offering a touch of luxury after a day in the wild. As night falls, gather around the crackling indoor fireplace or unwind with limited DSTV channels, while air conditioning keeps things just right.

The fully equipped kitchen, complete with stove, oven, microwave, and fridge, lets you prepare hearty meals, but the real magic happens outside: rinse off under open-air showers beside each bedroom, then fire up the braai on the verandah and dine beneath a sky bursting with stars.

Mountain Cottages

For those craving deeper adventure, the remote Mountain Cottages in Mountain Zebra National Park promise a true off-the-grid experience.

Tucked away in rugged terrain, Umthombo (“Fountain”) rests near the Weltevrede picnic site, while Bakana (“Beacon”) hides in the wilds of Berghofkloof. Reaching them is part of the journey (accessible only by 4x4 or high-clearance 2x4 vehicles with diff lock).

These rustic havens offer 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, and a simple kitchen lit by paraffin lamps, with a gas stove and fridge for essentials. Water is available for washing, but you’ll need to bring your own for drinking - an authentic bush experience that strips life down to its adventurous core.

Doornhoek Guest House
