Pongola Game Reserve is situated on Pongolapoort Dam (Lake Jozini) in breathtaking northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. This game reserve is 450 km (280 miles) from Johannesburg and 350 km (218 miles) from Durban and can be easily accessed from the N2 highway.
Directions to Pongola Game Reserve
Driving from Johannesburg, Gauteng
Travel from Johannesburg to Ermelo, Piet Retief and (on the N2) to Pongola. After 30km (19 miles), turn off the N2 onto the Golela road and continue for 4km (2.4 miles) to the reserve gate on the right hand side. Please note that for Sondaba, Mhlozi, Mpalane and Nkwazi do not turn onto the Golela road but continue on the N2 for one kilometre (0.62 miles), past the Pongola River and turn right at the Pongola Game Reserve (Leeukop) signboard.
Driving from Durban, KwaZulu-Natal
Take the N2 northwards, bypassing Stanger, Empangeni, Mtubatuba, Hluhluwe and Mkuze. The Golela turnoff is 38km (27 miles) past Mkuze. For Sondaba, Mhlozi, Mpalane and Nkwazi, travel along the N2, 35 kilometres (22 miles) past Mkuze, which is one kilometre before the Pongola River. Turn left at the Pongola Game Reserve (Leeukop) signboard.
