This pristine Nature Reserve in Waterberg, Limpopo, South Africa spreads over 3 000 hectares in an area of great geographical wonder. The terrain consists of thick bushveld, open savannah grass plains, mountains and valleys. Impala, Kudu, Rooi Hartebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Zebra, Eland, Nyala, Waterbuck, Giraffe, Blesbuck and Bushbuck, also smaller species such as Duiker, Mountain Reedbuck, Klipspringer, Steenbok, Bushpig and Warthog.
There are over 300 species of birdlife in the reserve which are indigenous to the area. Kololo and the surroundings support around 84 different species of trees, many are marked along the walking and bike trails. Wild flowers and grasses change with the seasons. There are about 500 species of plant on the Waterberg plateau.
Kololo Game Reserve actively supports the local community in a variety of ways through various programmes such as education, raising funds and welfare assistance.
A charter flight service as well as a transfer bus service from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg (ORTIA) is offered to guests. Many visitors opt to fly in on the charter flight and then take the scenic road transfer back to the airport, once they are rested and relaxed.
Guests are collected at ORTIA and taken to Wonderboom airfield in Pretoria (approximately 40 minutes), where they are flown in by charter flight. This is a 45 minute flight over the picturesque Waterberg mountain range to Kololo Game Reserve.
From ORTIA, take the R21 north to Pretoria (Tswane). Closer to Pretoria turn off from the R21 onto the N1 and continue north past Pretoria in the direction of Pietersburg (Polokwane). Turn left on the R33 to Modimolle at the Kranskop toll gate. Go through Modimolle and through Vaalwater (Mabatlane). DO NOT turn right on R33 to Ellisras in Vaalwater.
Continue straight to Bulgeriver / Thabazimbi and 8km (5 miles) after Vaalwater turn left on the Bakkerspas Road (there is a sign to Kololo). Drive 29km (18 miles) on a dirt road and find Kololo's gate on your right. Total distance from the airport to Kololo: about 280km (174 miles) or 3 hour's drive.
