Ai-Ais / Richtersveld Transfrontier National Park accommodation consists of well appointed and equipped Chalets and Reed Cabins, also Campsites for self-sufficient travellers. The camps are based in various parts of the park with most enjoying riverside settings.
Sendelingsdrif Rest Camp
Chalets (sleeping 2 – 4), Campsites (max 6 people per site)
An upgraded rest camp has been built offering Ai-Ais / Richtersveld Transfrontier National Park accommodation. It has a swimming pool and various enhancements are being phased in. All chalets at this Northern Cape nature reserve in South Africa are air-conditioned and equipped with a fridge and a two plate electric stove in the kitchenette, WC and shower. These spacious Chalets with patios overlook the Orange River and are either open plan or have 2 bedrooms. The campsites do not have power but there are ablutions and showers (cold water only)
Tatasberg and Ganakoeriep Wilderness Camps
Reed Cabins sleeping 2 in each (wheelchair friendly units available)
These attractive cabins with decks are perched amongst the rocks overlooking beautiful riverside and mountain scenery. Guests will need to bring their own drinking water and fire wood. There is also a barbeque facility on the deck. A caretaker is resident in the camp.
The cabins at this Northern Cape accommodation have a 12v light system, kitchenettes with fridges and gas stoves (hot and cold water), solar power (no plug points), paraffin lamps, WC and shower. The units will be swept out and the area kept clean but washing of utensils and making of beds will be the responsibility of the guests for the duration of their stay.
Campsites
These campsites do not have power but all have reed constructed ablutions and showers (cold water only). The exception is Kokerboomkloof.
- Potjiespram Rest Camp has an Environmental Education Centre where school groups can stay in traditional Nama Huts
- De Hoop Camp Site is a always a popular spot for campers on the river
- Richtersberg Camp Site this site is also situated along the Orange River
- Kokerboomkloof Camp Site only has dry toilets and there is no water – the nearest water site is Richtersberg (32km / 20 miles)
Hiking Trails Base Camp
This base camp at this Northern Cape nature reserve in South Africa is located in the panoramic Ganakouriep Valley and has gas stoves, fridges and hot showers available and accommodates 9 people. The water available is not suitable for drinking. The camp has an ideal location from which to explore the park by vehicle.
The hiking trail itself is not open due to a shortage of qualified guides. Booking for this camp are being taken well in advance until further notice. Groups under the control of an appropriately qualified and experienced guide may be allowed to hike – the guide will need to have extensive knowledge of this area, its terrain and climate.
