  • The Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve is a privately owned Gauteng game reserve, covering on average 1 200 hectares of land. This Gauteng game reserve is located in the 'Cradle of Humankind', a declared World Heritage Site, central to Johannesburg and Pretoria.

The reserve was founded in 1985 with the aim of conserving the area for leisure. The reserve had a modest beginning of only 2 white Rhino. The reserve now features over 600 head of game and up to 30 species of wildlife. Due to public demand to visit the game reserve, the name was changed from 'Kiepersol' to 'Rhino Park' in 1990 and the public were allowed to visit.

A lot of attention was put on animal breeding and the success of this project is best illustrated by the 18 new white Rhino calves and a number of new wildlife species. Despite many factors such as climate affecting breeding patterns, the reserve still made an effort to allow for a wildlife experience in Gauteng.

Due to the rare and dangerous species have a greater attraction value; Lion, Cheetah and later, the highly endangered Cape wild dog were introduced. By moving in the rare species, a breeding programme was initiated which led to further programmes for Bengal Tigers, Siberian Tigers and the very rare White Lion.

With this, the name was changed to the 'Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve'. Today the reserve, features not only wildlife and birdlife, but guests will find recreational and accommodation facilities for their enjoyment and comfort.

    Braai (barbecue) facilities are available.
