Makhasa offers thrilling Rhino and Buffalo tracking with experienced rangers, bush and birding walks as well as day and night game drives. In between these exciting South Africa nature reserve activities, guests can enjoy fabulous breakfasts and dinners in the heart of the bush. Mouth watering buffets are served at the lodge by lantern light in the boma (open-air enclosure), around a friendly camp-fire.

Rhino Tracking

Not for the faint hearted but nonetheless a must do activity. Guests with their expert ranger track a White Rhino on foot out of earshot of one of South Africa’s biggest.

Buffalo Tracking

Guests can secure some wonderful photographs whilst silently stalking a herd of Buffalo with their armed ranger.

Game Drives

The mainstay of every safari, these South Africa nature reserve activities are conducted in modern fully equipped Land Rovers in the morning and late afternoon. Snacks and beverages are provided at a view site where guests can stretch their legs and take in the vistas.

Night Drives

Guests take an enchanting 2 hour drive through Makhasa's forests and plains and find out what creatures lurk in the dark of the night. These thrilling adventures provide the best chance of spotting Leopard and Hyena.

Bird Walks

The 2 hour guided walks through the ancient sand forest are a delight for birders and their families. Makhasa Reserve has more than 380 bird species and the experienced rangers know the area well for those looking for specific birds.

Game Walks

Guests and their guide follow various established animal paths covering a variety of habitats over a 2 hour bush walk. Some areas are only accessible on foot and provide great sightings of wildlife.

Bush Dinner

After an epic evening drive on the reserve, guests will come upon a fire lit setting of African cuisine. A 3 course meal is enjoyed whilst listening to the sounds of the night. At the end of the meal there is a night drive on the way back to the lodge, where the vehicle drops guests at their chalet door.

Bush Breakfast

Makhasa Game Lodge staff can prepare a full buffet breakfast under the shade of a well established Marula tree for guests on a morning game drive.
