Elandsfontein is located adjacent to the West Coast National Park, famous for spectacular wild flowers in season, archaeological finds and scenery. The lagoon and its lovely beaches are popular in the summer for swimming and picnics, while boat enthusiasts can be seen out and about most of the year. Birding is particular good in the summer when thousands of migratory birds come to the lagoon.
Elandsfontein Nature Reserve in Western Cape enjoys the best of a peaceful, rural setting combined with the benefit of being adjacent to the West Coast National Park. Guests can retreat to the unique environment on the reserve where ancient fossils dating from 200 000 to 800 000 years back can be seen amongst the white dune veld (open grasslands).
More than 600 animals, including Cape Buffalo, Eland, Hartebeest, Gemsbok (Oryx), Vaal Ribbok, Kudu, Springbok, Bontebok, Cape Grey Buck, Black Wildebeest and Zebra freely roam Elandsfontein Private Nature Reserve. The reserve management made history in the Western Cape when many animals were re-introduced in the single biggest inward translocation of wildlife in 2006.
The reserve is located in a region of world wide importance due to its incredible floral kingdom diversity and high levels of flora and fauna which are threatened mainly due to habitat destruction. Elandsfontein also runs a successful rehabilitation centre in Langebaan, for Meerkats and other species needing rescue and care before being released back into the wild.
