The stark plains of this semi-desert park in the Western Cape are ideal for game viewing and exploring in a 4x4. On a Karoo National Park holiday guests can also follow a fossil trail, enjoy nature trails or go hiking.

Birdwatchers will find the best place for birding is at the hide which is located at the dam. Wildlife lovers on a Karoo National Park holiday can set off on guided game drives with trained staff. Morning drives take up to 3 hours and night drives take 90 minutes. After time spent observing Karoo flora and fauna, a dip in the rest camp swimming pool will be most welcome.

There are 3 hiking trails in the Karoo National Park. The shortest is the Karoo Fossil Trail (suitable for wheelchair users) which depicts the geology and palaeontology of the Great Karoo. The Bossie Trail is a bit longer and takes in the fascinating local flora – a pamphlet available from reception explains the medicinal / cultural uses plants that can be seen en-route. The Pointer Trail has 2 options, one of which visits a great viewpoint.

Karoo National Park has two 4x4 trails, one is much longer than the other and called the Nuweveld EcoTrail. Guests can overnight at a fully equipped cottage along the way which sleeps up to 6 people. Another special adventure is driving the Klipspringer Pass, with its environmentally friendly construction and view site at Rooivalle.

In between activities, visitors can relax at the rest camp and barbeque or picnic surrounded by the sights and the sounds of this ancient hinterland. The a la carte restaurant is also open for breakfast and dinner.
