Aquila Private Game Reserve in South Africa provides a malaria-free Big Five safari destination in the Klein Karoo with exquisite land features, 4x4 safaris, horseback safaris and quad biking. Bushman paintings that date back over 10 000 years, birding and refreshing dips in the salt-water swimming pool can all be enjoyed on this 4 500 hectare reserve.
There is a banqueting and conference centre, thatched boma (open-air) restaurant, pool bar and a Colonial Cigar Bar Lounge at Aquila Private Game Reserve. The lodge is constructed throughout with beautiful natural materials found on the reserve. Aquila is the perfect setting for a wedding with its unparalleled scenic backdrops and the spectacular Honeymoon Suite which boasts a sunken rock Jacuzzi.
Aquila Private Game Reserve caters for day tours and longer stays. Guests staying in Cape Town are transferred from and to their hotels. Alternately, visitors can self-drive to the reserve to fit in with scheduled arrangements or arrange a fly-in safari. Aquila offers day game drives and horseback safaris or combinations, standard overnight safaris as well as fly-in safaris for one or two days.
A complimentary highlight of any tour to Aquila would be visiting the Cheetah enclosure for the chance to get close to and gain educational insight into the survival of these beautiful creatures. Animals roaming on the reserve include Rhino, Buffalo, Giraffe, Lion, large herds of Zebra, Black and Blue Wildebeest, Red Hartebeest, Warthog, Eland, Springbok, Blesbok, Ostrich, Gemsbok, Hippo, Crocodile and other indigenous game.
Aquila is situated on the national flower route and from July to September the reserve displays a splendid carpet of Karoo flowers. Birdwatchers will find the natural wetland of interest, where a wide array of bird species can be seen, including Flamingo in the rainy season. The reserve is surrounded by historic towns, wine routes, and places to go for trout fishing and golf.
Visitors to Aquila Private Game Reserve in the Western Cape of South Africa can enjoy photo opportunities with Cheetahs, which they can even touch. This is a free service and is optional.
Aquila day visitor safaris
Day visitors can either self-drive to Aquila (must arrive by 8am) or they can be fetched at 6am from their Cape Town accommodation and transferred to the reserve. Enjoy breakfast, a guided game drive and lunch. Click on rates icon for prices.
